ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CONFERENCE OF PARTIES (COP28)

COP is the Conference of Parties. Parties are the country representatives as the meeting that show up every year. Every State that has ratified the Convention is represented at the Conference of Parties (COP), where decisions regarding institutional and administrative arrangements, as well as the implementation of the Convention and any other adopted legal instruments, are made.

Engagements takes place at the national, regional and international level. The Nation level consists of youth in action at the local level, the Regional level involves the African Agenda 2063, and the international level consists of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change , UNFCCC(1994), Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)  and Paris Agreement (2016).

There are two zones namely the blue and green zone.

KEY OUTCOMES FROM COP27

  • Decision of Loss and Damage Facility in the Sharm Elsheikh declaration.
  • Mobilizing more financial support for developing countries.
  • A decision on intergenerational equity with emphasis on Child rights.

ROAD2COP28

  • Pathway to COP28; update from SB’s on the Global Stock take.
  • Just Energy Transition; Africa’s position towards COP28.
  • Amplifying the voices of young people at COP28.
  • Strengthening Africa’s food system in the midst of the Climate Crisis.

 

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AT COP28.

  • In-person participation; attending side events, networking, following daily coordination meetings of AGN,G77+China.
  • Join the World leaders summit and other high-level COP meetings on UNFCCC website and their YouTube page.
  • Register for other side events of partners and other institutions online.
  • Join conversations happening on social media.

 

KEEPING THE MOMENTUM AFTER COP28?

The Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) is a youth oriented NGO whose vision is to achieve environmental sustainability through active youth inclusion in the governance of climate related thematic areas. SYND aims to be a bridge between Ghanaian government and youth on climate and other environmental related issues.  Below are some entry points it seeks to achieve at COP 28.
