Eastern Region SHS to celebrate 67th Independence Day With Football, Pillow Fighting and Tug of War

Students in some selected Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Eastern Region will enjoy the 67th Independence day anniversary of Ghana with three specially selected sports activities, Football, Tug of War and Pillow Fighting at the Koforidua SecTec on Friday February 29 and Saturday, March 1, 2024.

According to the organisers, Dreamland Sports Plus and One On One Foundation who are the initiators of the successful schools sanitation program, sports play a major role in development and socializing creates friendship, peaceful coexistence and affection.

Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams aka the ‘GAS’ man who is CEO of the organizations as well as Youth coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) said countries have developed new sporting activities and they are playing, like pickleball, climbing, skateboarding and breaking which would be competed at the 2024 Olympic Games.

He noted that Tug of War and Pillow Fighting are sports that many people are enjoying because of what they derive from.

“There is no injury in Pillow Fighting, just laughter, Tug of War also demonstrates strength in unity” he said.

He urged the over 20 schools to comport themselves and compete with sportsmanship values.

Mr. Williams expressed that both boys and girls are going to participate in the football gala to highlight the event sponsored by Verna Mineral Water, Yomi Yoghurt and Dano Milk.

He commended all the institutions that have confirmed to participate, stressing that 2024 is a sporting year for Ghana as the nation hosts the 13th African Games, comprising 30 different disciplines.

He wished Ghanaian students a happy Independence Anniversary which is also coming up at the new resource center in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region.
