Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi’s car was stolen over the weekend in Kumasi, Muftawu Nabila Abdulai can exclusively report.

The dark ash Pick Up car, which is his official car with registration number GX 6551 -18 was stolen at Owass hotel, a famous hotel in the Ashanti Region located at Adum in the early hours of Friday morning September 6, 2019.

The former Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST), was at the Garden City for the final of the 2019 Ghana Fastest Human and President’s Cup match involving Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Speaking to Muftawu Nabila Abdulai on the incident, the NSA boss said it was “an internal matter the security is dealing with.”

Explaining what transpired before the car got missing, Mr Twumasi said the car was with the driver Michael Andoh and he was robbed.

He added that the matter has been reported to the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region.

Responding to a WhatsApp message sent to him earlier, he said the “car was stolen at a hotel where the driver slept.”

Muftawu Nabila Abdulai investigations, however, revealed that the car was stolen at the car park at Owasso Hotel and not robbed as narrated by the Sports Authority boss.

Professor Twumasi was lodged at Hotel Georgia, whilst his driver was at Owass Hotel.

Muftawu understands that the driver, Michael Andoh and the gentleman whose name was only given as Jackson, visited a patient, Sekyere on Thursday afternoon at an unknown hospital.

The two returned to Owasso Hotel around 19-20:00 GMT with the car before parting ways.

At about 4:00 GMT, the security man at Owass called Michael, saying his friend, Jackson was the one who needed his services.

Jackson wanted them to return to the hospital where their presence was needed because the patient they visited on Thursday afternoon had passed on.

Stepping out to meet Jackson was when Michael Andoh realised that the official car handed to Mr Twumasi when he was appointed Director-General to replace Robert Sarfo Mensah was missing.

Intel from people close to the incident in Kumasi say Mr Andoh enquired from the security man on duty and he claims he had left duty post around 2:00 GMT and that, he had just returned, so he had no idea the whereabouts of the car.

The matter was reported to the hotel authorities and later to the KNUST Police Station leading to the arrest of the security man who is currently in Police custody assisting investigations.

Michael Andoh is also assisting police investigations as they seek to retrieve the car to aid the work of the boss heading Sporting disciplines in Ghana.

Attempts to reach the Hotel and the KNUST Police Station proved futile.
