This edition looks exceptional and dynamic, featuring participants from over 29 countries, the highest so far in the history of the games since its inception in 1965 in Congo, Brazzaville. (Table Tennis was added to the Games in 1973 in Lagos, Nigeria)

The introduction of junior players making their first major debut is a testament to the continent’s readiness to build up a resilient youthful exuberance in order to face other continents. The likes of Nigeria’s Kuti Mathew, Ghana’s Israel Aklie and Joanita Borteye, Uganda’s Subatindira Joseph, and Kenya’s Abduldain Anaab and Nafula Sifa are promising stars for the continent in the coming years.

While most of these players were evicted in the singles event, they showed remarkable class before their exit.

It is essential to provide the youth with the opportunity and avenue to explore their talent to build a robust team for the continent. Therefore, this is the way to go for Africa.

The 2023 African Games is an indication of the continent’s continuous progress towards excellence and a brighter future in sports.
