2023 African Games: No medals for Ghana in tennis as men’s doubles team crash out

Ghana’s hopes of a medal in Tennis were shattered on Tuesday, when the only surviving participants, the men’s doubles team, crashed out of the competition.

Abraham Asaba and Isaac Nortey, after an impressive run in the men’s doubles competition, succumbed to a straight sets loss to Egypt’s Mohammed Safwat and Fares Mohammed in the quarterfinals.

The Ghanaian duo needed a win to reach the semifinals and guarantee a medal, but were unfortunately second best on the court, with the Egyptians running away 6-4, 6-2 winners.

They will be joined in the semis by Zimbabwe, who registered a straight sets win over Burundi, and two Tunisian teams.

In the women’s doubles, two Egyptian teams, in addition to Kenya and Nigeria are through to the semifinals.
