Ghana hosted the 13th edition of the African Games 2023 at 9 designated venues including the Borteyman Sports Complex, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, the Accra Sports Stadium, the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, the Achimota Cricket Oval among others.
At the end of the 20 day period, Ghana recorded 68 medals in total [19 Gold, 28 Silver and 21 Bronze medals]. This is historic in Ghana’s participation in the African Games.
Ghana’s best feat in the competition was achieved in Brazzaville 2015 where Ghana recorded 25 medals in total.
Ghana won 41 medals in Arm Wrestling, 7 medals in Boxing, 2 in Football and remarkably 6 medals in Athletics. In sporting disciplines tagged lesser known sports in Ghana, there were medals won.
Cadman Evans Yamoah won Gold in Men’s High Jump with his compatriot Rose Amoanimaa winning same in the Women’s High Jump. There were also Gold medals for Samuel Takyi, Aryeetey Mohammed, Mohammed Amadu, Commey Joseph [all in boxing], Joseph Paul Amoah in Men’s 200m, Men’s and Women’s Football and the Women’s Hockey.
