GOC President Believes Willam Amponsah Will Qualify For Paris Olympic Games

Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) remains confident Ghana’s long-distance record holder, Willam Amponsah will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

He made this statement during the launch of the Accra Inter City Homowo challenge, held at the Accra Sports Stadium’s media centre.

He stated, ‘I am sure most of you have heard the name of William Amponsah, who recently won a silver medal at the African Games. William Amponsah has experience in similar competitions, and today, we are hoping that if things go well, William Amponsah is likely to be one of the athletes who will qualify for the Paris Games in the coming weeks”.

“The few competitions that William is taking part in, we hope he will make it to Paris. So far, six of his colleagues have qualified for the Paris Games, and I hope William Amponsah will also qualify and join them in Paris.”

The deadline for qualification for the Paris Olympic Games varies depending on the sport and event. Here are some qualification deadlines for different sports

Athletics (Track and Field): June 30, 2024.

Swimming: June 23, 2024.

10,000m, combined events, race walks and relays: June 30, 2024.

Marathon: April 30, 2024.
