Francis Obeng and Ivy Narteh wins big at 2024 Great Accra Regional Super Zonal Badminton competition

Francis Obeng from Presbyterian Senior High School, Osu (PRESEC) and Ivy Narteh from Osudoku Secondary Technical High School emerged winners in the 2024 Greater Accra Region Super Zonal Badminton competition held at the Ada Technical Institute, Ada, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Obeng defeated Desmond Billy of the Achimota Senior High School in the boys’ single division for first place. In contrast, Edmond Mintah of West Africa Senior High School (WASS) and Julius Osabutey of Osudoku Secondary Technical High School placed third and fourth, respectively.
Nartey defeated Benedicta Teye of Tema Senior High School (Temasco) in the girl’s single division for first place. At the same time, Miriam Kemeh of WASS and Peggy Agyemfra of Achimota Senior High School won third and fourth place, respectively.
Ten schools comprised fifteen teams, and sixty students participated in this year’s Super Zonal competition in Badminton, the highest ever in the last five years.
The schools were Osu PRESEC, Osudoku, WASS, Achimota, Accra Academy, Labone SHS, Prampram Senior High, Accra Girls, Kpone Senior High and Temasco. Each of these schools has been a winner in their respective Zones. The winners would be invited to represent the region at the Regional Schools Festival in September in the Western Region.
In an interview with the media, Mr Yeboah Evans, President of the Ghana Badminton Association, who was present at the event, “admonished the spiral growth of the sport across the country and advised the students to take advantage of the numerous educational and sports benefits the sport provides, and participate in Badminton Schools Championship events. It was a perfect time as a team; just playing together was nice, and they had competitive fun about the sport.”
