Beach Soccer. Ghana Secures Spot for the 2024 AFCON

The national beach soccer team of Ghana, the Black Sharks has qualified for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) in Egypt.

The Black Sharks picket one of the tickets for the continental showpiece after a 10-5 aggregate win over Ivory Coast in the second leg in Abidjan.

Ghana travelled to Abidjan with a 5-3 first leg win and were down by 2 goals to 1 after the first period of their encounter in the Ivorian capital.

However, a strong second half display ensured Ghana ended the game with victory and qualify for AFCON.

Wise Nyamadi levelled the scores in the second half before captain Alex Osah gave the Black Stars the lead for the first time in the match.

Late goals from Precious Torgbor and Jude Akile sealed the win for Ghana.

Eight countries will participate in the final phase of the AFCON 2024 beach soccer tournament in Egypt which includes; Host Nation Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique, Mauritania, Morocco, Tanzania, Senegal and Malawi.

The last edition took place in Vilankulo, Mozambique, between October 21 and 28, 2022, and saw Senegal clinch its 7th title.

Egypt is hosting the competition for the second time after the 2018 edition held in Charm el-Sheikh.

African Football Confederation (CAF) has not yet announced the dates for the 2024 edition, but the competition is expected to take place in November.
