Paris Olympics: Spain beat France in thrilling football finals to claim gold medal

Spain secured the gold medal in the Olympic men’s soccer tournament after Sergio Camello scored twice in extra time to earn a dramatic 5-3 win over hosts France in a nail-biting final at Parc des Princes on Friday.

The French team scored an early goal, with Enzo Millot putting them ahead in the 11th minute. However, Spain responded spectacularly. Just seven minutes later, Fermín López equalized, and by the 25th minute, he had completed a double. Three minutes after that, Spain extended their lead to 3:1.

After the break, the French took control, increasing pressure on the Spanish goal. They managed to reduce the deficit to 3:2 in the 78th minute, with Magnes Akliouche scoring. Spain continued to defend, seemingly holding firm. However, in the 90+3 minute, France was awarded a penalty, which was converted, bringing the score to 3:3!

The match went into extra time following the incredible 3:3 draw.

In extra time, Spain proved to be the stronger side, scoring the decisive goal in the 100th minute. Sergio Camello secured the gold medal for his team. In the final moments, he completed a double, sealing the victory with a 5-3 scoreline.

This victory marks Spain’s second Olympic gold medal in football, with their first having been won in Barcelona in 1992.
