Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Esq) has emerged victorious as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Weija-Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra Region, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Shaib garnered 32,608 votes, narrowly defeating his closest challenger, Felix Odartey Lamptey, who secured 30,460 votes.

This victory signals a new chapter for the constituency, previously represented by outgoing MP Tina Naa Ayele Mensah. In the 2020 parliamentary elections, Mensah claimed a decisive victory with a 14,000-vote margin over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Cleyland Nii Ayaa Ayison.

For Shaib, this win also marks redemption after an earlier political setback. In 2016, he ran for the Ablekuma South parliamentary seat on the NPP ticket but lost to Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije. With this fresh mandate, he is now poised to serve the people of Weija-Gbawe for the next four years.

The “Chorkor Lawyer”: A Remarkable Journey

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, affectionately called the “Chorkor Lawyer,” has built an illustrious career in law, governance, and leadership. He holds a diverse academic portfolio, starting with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics and Sociology) from the University of Cape Coast.

He further pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Sociology from the University of Ghana. Adding to his credentials, he earned an Executive MBA in Marketing.

In 2010, Shaib was called to the Bar after obtaining his Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law. This milestone marked the beginning of a distinguished legal career as a Barrister and Solicitor of Ghana’s Supreme Court.

His tenure brought renewed hope to coastal communities, underscoring his commitment to fostering development and improving livelihoods.

Contributions to Sports Administration

Beyond his legal and administrative expertise, Shaib is deeply involved in sports governance. He serves as the Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Olympic Committee and presides over the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF). Under his leadership, the GWF has advanced initiatives to promote the sport across the country, contributing to the development of weightlifting talent at both national and international levels.
