Denmark’s Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Nørring, recently paid a courtesy call to the Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, to congratulate him on his appointment.

The visit also provided an opportunity for Ambassador Nørring to discuss Denmark’s continued support for Ghana’s water sector.

For decades, Denmark has been a key partner in supporting Ghana’s water sector through DANIDA engagement. Since 2019, the focus has shifted towards the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC), which aims to strengthen water management through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and sustainable solutions.

Ambassador Nørring highlighted Denmark’s new Africa Strategy, which includes a commitment of DKK +1 Billion to the African water sector. This significant investment aims to expand and improve water access in Northern Ghana and enhance water efficiency in the Tema region.

The development project is linked to the ongoing SSC and the feasibility study of the Aveyime Water investment project. This project aims to address the water deficit in Tema and Greater Accra, providing a sustainable solution to the region’s water challenges.

In addition to this significant investment, Ambassador Nørring reiterated Denmark’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s water sector through the DANIDA Fellowship Centre. The centre offers capacity-building programs for technical experts and policymakers, ensuring that Ghana has the necessary expertise to manage its water resources effectively.
