Herbert Mensah, the dynamic President of Rugby Africa, continues to steer the sport to new heights, making it one of the most talked-about disciplines on the continent.

Under his leadership, rugby in Africa has not just grown—it has flourished, capturing global attention like never before.

On March 1, 2025, Mensah stood alongside his old friend Gayton McKenzie, South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, to witness a groundbreaking contract signing between the French Development Agency (AFD), the South African Rugby Union (SARU), and Rugby Africa. This pivotal agreement, sealed in South Africa’s capital, is yet another testament to the sport’s rising influence.

Taking to social media, Rugby Africa paid tribute to McKenzie’s impact, stating:

Gayton McKenzie is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to sports in South Africa. His presence at the signing was electrifying—he brought an energy that turned heads and drew everyone in!”

Mensah further shared a personal connection with McKenzie, saying:

“I’ve known Gayton for years—been to his home, and he’s visited me in Ghana. That bond of friendship runs deep. The best way to describe him? Real. He engages with people with pure sincerity, something that shines through in his books.

When I introduced my daughter to The Choice, she was amazed by the authenticity. Since then, he has written The Hustlers Bible, The New Testament, The Uncomfortable, and Trapped—each a reflection of his raw and unfiltered truth. He is a man of many layers, but I am proud to say I know the real Gayton McKenzie.”
