Rafatu Inusah Elected President of Ghana Rugby Football Union

In a historic moment for Ghanaian rugby, Ms. Rafatu Inusah has been elected as the new President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) for the next four years. The election took place during the federation’s elective congress on Monday, March 17, where she contested unopposed.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Inusah thanked the delegates for their trust and expressed her gratitude to the outgoing President, Herbert Mensah, for his dedication to the sport’s development over the past eight years. She emphasized the importance of teamwork and urged all members to work together for the continuous growth of the federation and the sport in Ghana.

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, congratulated Ms. Inusah on her election and expressed his commitment to supporting rugby’s growth in Ghana. “As a government, we’re committed to supporting Rugby’s growth at all levels – from grassroots to elite competition,” he stated.

Mr. Ankrah also acknowledged the significance of Ghanaian Herbert Mensah’s presidency of Rugby Africa, highlighting the country’s growing influence in the sport. “This is something we should be proud of. This is just the beginning of Ghana rugby, you need to work very hard, madam, I know your leadership is going to be a productive one.”

Under Ms. Inusah’s leadership, Ghana Rugby is expected to focus on several key areas. Athlete development will be a top priority, with a focus on providing support and resources to Ghanaian rugby players to compete at the international level. Additionally, grassroots growth will be emphasized, with efforts to expand rugby programs and initiatives across the country to increase participation and develop the sport.
