The President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), Hon. Jerry Amhed Shaib, has revealed his comprehensive plan and Commitment to transforming Weightlifting across in the country by establishing Clubs in every region.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show Hon. Shaib revealed that one of his objectives is to ensure that weightlifting becomes a common sport in Ghana.
“My vision is to establish weightlifting clubs across every region in Ghana. The legacy I want to leave—with God’s help, my executive board, and the support of the Sports Minister—is to make weightlifting a regular, everyday sport in Ghana.”
He announced that a special committee will be formed to spearhead the establishment of regional clubs.
“We will partner with Senior High Schools and the security services to build strong grassroots structures,” he explained. “We also need more local gyms where young talents can be discovered and properly trained.”
Hon. Shaib, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, emphasized the importance of creating systems that will produce elite athletes while promoting fitness and discipline among the youth.
