Conquerors SC emerged as the undisputed champions of the 2025 Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) National 7s, hosted by the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) on Saturday, May 31, at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium.
The tournament featured eight elite teams divided into two pools. In Pool A, Conquerors SC dominated their group-stage matches, opening with a commanding 31–10 victory over Hunters Rugby Club. They followed up with a 33–0 win against Accra Rugby Club and rounded off with a 40–0 demolition of Jakpa Rugby Club, finishing the group unbeaten and unscored against in two of their three matches.

In the same group, Accra Rugby Club played to a 5–5 draw with Jakpa Rugby Club, lost to Conquerors SC, but bounced back with an emphatic 34–5 victory over Hunters RC, securing second place in the pool. Hunters RC also managed a 15–5 win over Jakpa RC, ending their campaign with one victory.
Pool B saw Oguaa Warriors RFC top the group with a perfect record. They edged Dzodze Rugby Club 20–12, shut out Northern Lions RFC 15–0, and capped it off with a convincing 21–5 win over Accra Majestics. Accra Majestics managed a 15–5 win against Dzodze but were defeated by both Northern Lions (7–15) and Oguaa Warriors. Northern Lions RFC bounced back from their initial loss to beat Dzodze 12–0, earning the second semi-final spot from the group.

In the semi-finals, Conquerors SC outclassed Northern Lions RFC with a staggering 44–0 victory, while Oguaa Warriors edged Accra Rugby Club 12–5 in a tense contest. The third-place playoff saw Accra Rugby Club claim a 22–12 win over Northern Lions, securing a strong finish.

The final was a one-sided affair, as Conquerors SC displayed technical superiority, athleticism, and cohesion — overpowering Oguaa Warriors RFC 44–0 to seal their undefeated run and lift the 2025 national title.
The GRCC National 7s serves not only as a domestic competition but also as a platform for players to gain national recognition and earn selection into the national team setup. The event also aligns with Ghana Rugby’s strategic performance goals, offering opportunities for emerging talent to gain international exposure.

Speaking to the media after the final,
Nhyira Owusu-Ansah, a player for Conquerors, attributed their success to hard training and discipline.
“We’ve been training so hard for this because we have a tournament coming up in Mauritius next month,” he said. “We gave our all because you can’t underestimate anyone. You just have to give your all in anything because you don’t know who’s watching.”
Sacut Amenga-Ettego, Secretary-General of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, praised the event, saying:
“It’s been a very fantastic tournament. You’ve witnessed fantastic games from teams from all over the country… Some of the individual players were really, really fantastic.”
He also acknowledged the importance of sponsorship, stating:
“We couldn’t have done it without our sponsors like Kivo, Interpl, and many others. We are very grateful and hope they will continue to support us.”
Ettego emphasized the need for increased sponsorship to boost participation, especially among women’s teams:
“If we had more sponsorship, we could have had more teams participating. We look forward to more sponsorship for our future club championships.”
The President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Ms. Rafatu Inusah, highlighted the growth of rugby across regions:
“We had clubs playing at the regional level for us to reach here,” she said. “We want to extend our hands all over the country and spread rugby across all 16 regions we have in Ghana.”
She commended the progress made by teams from the Savannah, Northern, Volta, and Central regions.
“I’m very happy to see the progress of the Northern Lions,” she added. “Congratulations to the top three – Accra Rugby, Oguaa Warriors, and Conquerors.”
Inusah also attributed Conquerors SC’s success to hard work and consistency:
“It’s not about just today’s performance; it’s about training and dedication. There’s nothing spiritual about this — it’s the result of hard work, and hard work pays.”
The Eagles will represent Ghana at the Mauritius Sevens, scheduled for June 21–22, 2025, at the Labourdonnais Sports Club.
