The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially approved the competitions calendar for the 2025/26 football season. The schedule outlines timelines for the Premier League, FA Cup, Women’s League, and lower divisions, ensuring a structured and consistent football year. The move aims to enhance planning, improve match coordination, and support club preparations across all levels of the domestic game.

The new football season will officially commence on July 1, 2025, and conclude on June 30, 2026, aligning with the GFA Statutes and the Association’s accounting year.

In formulating the calendar, the GFA has taken into consideration the 23rd FIFA World Cup, scheduled for June 11 to July 19, 2026, ensuring that all elite domestic competitions conclude before the commencement of the global showpiece.

Key Highlights of the 2025/26 Competitions Calendar:

Premier League: All matches will be played on Sundays, with midweek dates reserved for outstanding fixtures, mirroring the structure of the 2024/25 season.

Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League and the Division One League will also maintain Sunday matchdays.

MTN FA Cup: Only selected matches in the Round of 64 and the Round of 63 may be played midweek, while all Women’s FA Cup matches will take place on weekends.

eTrophy – GFA eFootball Competition: The season will feature the return of eTrophy, offering gamers a platform to display their skills and compete for places in the national eFootball team.

Beach Soccer and Futsal Premier Leagues: Both competitions will once again be part of the season’s programme.

Regional Competitions: All Regional Football Association leagues; including Division Two, Division Three, Regional Women’s Division One, and the Boys and Girls Colts Leagues (U13, U15, U17); will start on or before October 1, 2025, and conclude by May 31, 2026.

Girls Colts Football Expansion: In a major boost to the GFA Women’s Football Strategy, the 2025/26 season will witness the nationwide rollout of Girls Colts competitions (U15 and U17), building on the pilot success in the Northern and Greater Accra Regions this past season. These competitions will be held in partnership with FIFA Women’s Football Development and the Ten Regional Football Associations.

Off-season Competitions: Provision has been made for off-season tournaments, including the Elite U15 Girls Championship, Elite U19 Second Division Championship, Boys U15 Elite Competition, and the KGL Foundation U17 Colts Championship.

With the early release of key dates, including the registration window and the 31st GFA Annual Congress, the Association is reinforcing its commitment to structured planning, allowing clubs and stakeholders to prepare adequately for the season ahead.

The GFA is committed to the effective execution of this comprehensive calendar to ensure a vibrant, competitive, and well-coordinated football season across all levels.
