The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with the French Embassy, has launched a sports development initiative aimed at empowering young girls across the country. The program focuses on promoting gender equality, boosting participation in football, and providing mentorship opportunities for girls at the grassroots level. By combining athletic training with life skills education, the initiative seeks to build confidence, leadership, and long-term engagement in sports among Ghana’s next generation of female athletes.
Through this initiative, the French Embassy, Alliance Française d’Accra, Dunk GrassRoots Community Centre, and Besasaka organised a Women in Sport event at the DUNK Grassroots – Jamestown Community Centre to encourage young girls with interests in sports.

“It is an honour to come and talk to young girls today. It’s great to see these girls passionate about different sports, not just football. I encourage you all to do your best, believe in yourselves, persevere, and put in the hard work. Don’t forget your books, as education is very important. I know you’ll be successful.
“It was challenging in our time to venture into a male-dominated field, but it’s better now. You have role models to look up to, and with the GFA’s support, there’s been significant improvement in the women’s game, making them more visible. You can choose your role models.
“It won’t be easy, but I know that if you’re humble and willing to learn, you’ll make it,” she concluded.
The GFA and the French Embassy in Ghana are committed to continuing their collaboration, with plans for further exchanges and joint initiatives that will benefit football communities in both countries.
