The Ghana Football Association’s release of the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup calendar has stirred debate among clubs and fans, with some claiming the timeline is overly compressed and could compromise player welfare and match quality. While officials tout the early announcement as a move toward better planning, critics argue it reflects a lack of meaningful consultation with lower-tier teams and player unions. As fixtures pile up, questions remain about whether the domestic calendar is truly serving the growth of Ghanaian football.
The competition is set to commence on the weekend of October 24, 2025, and will conclude with the grand final on May 30 or 31, 2026. The calendar has been carefully designed to align with the global football schedule, ensuring that all domestic elite competitions are completed ahead of the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Only selected matches in the Round of 64 and the Round of 63 may be played midweek, while all Women’s FA Cup matches will take place on weekends.
The GFA is committed to the effective execution of this calendar to ensure a vibrant, competitive, and well-coordinated football season across all levels.
