The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has entered into a landmark partnership with Adesa Productions Limited in a bold move to revolutionize the broadcasting and commercial appeal of the Ghana Premier League. The deal aims to enhance the quality of match coverage, increase fan engagement, and unlock new revenue streams for clubs through strategic content production and distribution. This collaboration marks a significant step toward elevating the league’s profile both locally and internationally.

The official launch, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, brought together an array of high-profile dignitaries and stakeholders from across government, corporate and sports administration. Among those in attendance were the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku; Vice-President, Mark Addo, Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah; Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams and Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga.

The partnership with Adesa Productions Limited marks a bold step towards reimagining Ghana’s top-flight league as a modern, commercially viable and globally competitive sports product. Under this new framework, APL will spearhead the production, branding, marketing and broadcasting of the league, ensuring world-class content delivery across multiple platforms.

President Simeon-Okraku, in his keynote address, outlined the strategic vision underpinning the initiative.

APL9“Today, we are unveiling a new framework. A new business model. A new vision,” he declared. “We are rolling out a process that places a premium on what our players want, and what you need. For the first time, we are building a structure where our game does not only entertain, but also pays for itself, sustains the clubs, and builds wealth for all stakeholders involved.”

This new structure will be anchored in sustainability, innovation, and partnerships, focusing on robust commercialization, high-quality content production, and a dynamic blend of corporate and public sector collaboration. The GFA, through the newly established Ghana Premiership Football Company Limited, will operate as the vehicle for the transformation, helping reduce the overhead burden on clubs while improving their economic outlook.

APL8As part of the immediate measures to bolster club performance and preparedness for the upcoming season,  President Simeon-Okraku announced a significant financial commitment of GHS 1 million to each of the 18 Premier League clubs, to be disbursed before the end of September.

“This is not a grant. This is not just a number – it is a commitment to club transformation,” Simeon-Okraku emphasized. “It is the difference between delayed salaries and timely payments; between outdated medical rooms and fully equipped health centres; between empty stands and vibrant, media-ready stadiums.”

A portion of the funds will be allocated toward stadium infrastructure upgrades, including the renovation of players’ boxes, modernization of health facilities and the technological enablement of venues to support live broadcasting.

In a groundbreaking move to incentivize competitiveness and professionalism throughout the league, the Football Association will introduce, for the first time in its history, a merit-based prize structure that rewards every club based on their final league position.

APL“Whether you place first or twentieth, your effort, your performance, your participation will yield financial benefit,” the GFA President explained. “This brings meaning to every game and keeps the competitive spirit alive throughout the season.”

The initiative aims to instill fairness and meritocracy, ensuring that every match counts and every club, regardless of position, feels valued and motivated.

In a stirring call to reimagine the possibilities of domestic football, President Simeon-Okraku expressed the Football Association’s ambition to make the Ghana Premier League a destination in its own right.

“Why should Ghanaian footballers have to leave to be appreciated, when we can make this league a destination in itself?” he queried. “We may not be able to match the multimillion-dollar deals offered by external clubs, but we can make our Clubs so attractive, that our players will face a difficult decision when faced with the prospect of leaving Ghana.”

The GFA–APL partnership is expected to drive comprehensive brand enhancement, stronger corporate sponsorship and a renewed sense of national pride in domestic football. It also promises support for other products of the Football Association and the various national teams, tying into broader developmental goals for the sport in Ghana.

APL7From improved club financing to live television-ready stadiums, from prize equity to a revitalized football culture, this partnership signals a new era,  one that envisions Ghanaian football not just as a sport, but as a thriving economic enterprise.

As the 2025/26 season approaches, Ghanaian football fans, players, clubs, and stakeholders alike now look forward to a league reimagined, reenergized, and redefined.
