Barcelona Femení will begin the new campaign with a depleted squad of just 18 players, raising concerns over depth and squad rotation as they chase another dominant season. Injuries, international commitments, and player departures have left the defending champions short-handed, putting extra pressure on the available stars to maintain their winning momentum. Despite the challenge, the Catalan giants remain confident in their quality and resilience to compete at the highest level.

Jana Fernández is set to be the next official departure and will join Ellie Roebuck, Fridolina Rolfö, Bruna Vilamala and Martina Fernandez in departing, according to AS. A host of young stars have also waved goodbye to the Catalan giants this summer.

Laia Aleixandri has arrived back at the club on a free transfer but that has been it so far with regards new signings. If Jana goes, Barca Femeni will have just 17 first-team stars for the coming campaign.

And this is becoming a trend. Barcelona have also seen a host of top stars leave over the last two seasons including high-profile players including Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh and Mariona Caldentey.

The club have been forced to slim down the all-conquering women’s team due to their financial issues. LaLiga currently accounts for the budgets of the women’s teams along with the men’s side.

More problems may well be looming as Barcelona know they will need to start thinking about renewing the contracts of key players soon. Alexia Putellas, Caroline Graham Hansen, Mapi Leon, Claudia Pina, and Cata Coll are all out of contract in 2026.
