Former Arsenal, Tottenham and Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor announces retirement

Emmanuel Adebayor, a former Premier League striker who played for Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Crystal Palace, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.

Adebayor made the announcement in a video posted on Instagram, which included a clip of his memorable goal for City against former club Arsenal in 2009.

The video also showed footage of Adebayor draped in Togo’s national flag, as well as a message thanking his fans and expressing gratitude for his career.

Adebayor scored 97 Premier League goals during his time in England, and also enjoyed spells in France, Spain and Turkey before finishing his career in his homeland at Semassi.

He posted: “Thank you to my fans for being there every step of the way. I’m feeling so grateful for everything, and excited for what’s to come!”

Adebayor then wrote a message on a piece of paper that read: “Thanks for the blessings!!!”

The striker now spends his time between his homes in Ghana and Togo.
