NHIA CEO Dr. Okoe Boye congratulates Ghana Armwrestling on Africa Championship triumph

The CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for their exceptional promotion and development of the sport, which has rapidly gained popularity and become a household name in Ghana.

Dr. Okoe Boye also commended the national armwrestling team, known as the Golden Arms, for their remarkable achievement in the recently concluded Africa Championship held in Accra.

Ghana successfully hosted and emerged victorious in the 12th edition of the championship, a feat made possible with the support of the NHIA.

In a reception organized to welcome the triumphant team, the former Member of Parliament for Ledzokoku Constituency expressed his delight at partnering with the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, emphasizing the NHIA’s commitment to supporting institutions that promote physical activity and healthy living.

Impressed by the rapid development of the sport, Dr. Okoe Boye reminisced about his own armwrestling prowess during his time at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he remained undefeated. He expressed his happiness at witnessing the professionalization of the sport and pledged his ongoing support.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation, led by President Charles Osei Asibey, visited the NHIA office to officially express their gratitude to Dr. Okoe Boye and the NHIA for their significant support throughout the Africa Armwrestling Championship.

The team presented the medals and trophy won during the championship as a token of appreciation.

President Osei Asibey acknowledged that Ghana’s exceptional performance, securing a record-breaking 132 medals comprising 47 gold, 55 silver, and 30 bronze, would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the NHIA.

He also shared that Ghana has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship, pending the official announcement in Kazakhstan.

Notable members present at the reception included Pharm. Kofi Addo-Agyekum (Vice President), Mr. Husseini Akuetteh Addy (Technical Director), ICO Nii Otoo Larkyne (Coach), ICO Edward Yamoah Asamoah (Captain), Grace Mintah (Captain), and Blessed Naa Abeka Nunoo (athlete).

The 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship took place from June 21-24, 2023, at the GNAT Hall in Accra. Ghana’s outstanding performance and dominance in both left and right arm battles secured a remarkable haul of 132 medals, solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with in the sport.
