SuperSport TV has reversed its decision, securing broadcasting rights for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals set to take place in Ivory Coast, commencing in two days.

Initially failing to acquire the rights, the company faced substantial criticism, particularly in West African countries like Ghana and Nigeria, where SuperSport TV is prevalent.

The initial backlash prompted subscribers to consider cancelling their subscriptions.

Last week, a leaked letter from MultiChoice, DSTV’s sister company, circulated on social media, announcing the non-broadcasting of the Africa Cup of Nations due to unsecured rights.

This revelation triggered a widespread social media uproar, intensifying the scrutiny of the company’s actions.

With this U-turn, SuperSport TV aims to appease its audience and regain their support for what is deemed the most significant football tournament on the African continent.

“SuperSport will broadcast all 52 matches of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 (AFCON) live after MultiChoice secured the rights to broadcast the continent’s showpiece tournament, which kicks off on 13 January 2024 until 11 February 2024,” portion of the statement released on Wednesday evening reads.

Below is the full statement confirming SuperSport TV will show live all 52 matches of the AFCON:
