The Ghanaian athlete clinched Gold and two silvers medals in the Women’s 49kg snatch in Weightlifting at the University of Ghana GCB Hall.

She competed in Women’s 49kg Weightlifting, securing silver in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, and clinched gold in the overall score.

Ghana’s quest for medals has been met with crashing disappointment with heartbreaks in series of events.

Winnifred Ntumi puts Ghana on the medal table after winning three medals in her division.

The tennis team, both in the singles and team events, failed to reach the business end of their discipline while the swimming team agonizingly missed out of a podium finish on Saturday, March 9.

There were also feint hearted attempts in Wrestling and Badminton but the respite finally came in Weightlifting.

Ghana has traditionally been a strong contender in Weightlifting and it came as little to no surprise when Winnifred scooped silver.

The host nation for the 13th edition of the African Games would hope that Ntumi’s success will open the floodgates for more medals as Ghana aims to climb the medal table.
