John Abaja Laryea: “Expensive Boxer” vows to lift Ghana’s flag high in boxing

The two-time WBO African champion John Abaja John “Expensive Boxer” Laryea made this bold declaration ahead of his fight on the undercard of the main event “WBA Title” bout in the United States.

This high-profile event features Mexican champions Rey Geovani Vargas (WBC) and Luis Alberto Lopez (IBF).

As the sole African contender among Featherweight boxers worldwide, Laryea is ready to showcase his skills on the international stage.

Scheduled for May 31, 2024, under the Boxlab Promotion, the ‘Expensive Boxer’ aims to extend his undefeated streak to 15-0 in his inaugural international match.

Boasting an impressive 10 knockout victories to his name, the 23-year-old is eager to represent both himself and his homeland, Ghana, with pride, under the guidance of renowned trainer Carl Lokko.

In an interview with the Warm Up+ Sports Show on TV3, Laryea confidently stated, “My name will be on everyone’s lips in the boxing world after my debut fight in Florida.”

Currently ranked 14th globally and a two-time WBO African Champion, Laryea expressed gratitude to his managers, Mr. Samuel Anim Addo and Mr. Peter Khan, for making his international debut possible.

His coach, Mr. Lawrence Carl Lokko, also the 1st Vice President of the United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana, highlighted Laryea’s potential and the positive impact of this exposure on his journey towards the world title.
