Ghana’s Black Challenge defeat Morocco to win 2024 Amputee AFCON

Ghana’s amputee football team, the Black Challenge emerged champions of the 2024 Amputee African Cup (AFCON ) of Nations hosted in Egypt on Monday 27th May, 2024 at Cairo Stadium.

The Black Challenge came from behind to beat Morocco 2-1 in the final to become the champions of Africa.

Morocco scored the game’s opener in the 14th minute of the game before Ghana equalised through Mubarak Mohammed to make it 1-1 after the break.

Ghana’s equaliser came through the spot after they were awarded a penalty in the 41st minute.

There were end-to-end actions for both teams but Ghana’s goalkeeper continued to pull wonderful saves to keep the Black Challenge in the game.

There was no winner at the end of the regulation time with the final heading into extra time.

Minutes into the extra time, Mubarak scored again to give Ghana the lead for the first time in the game as they went on to clinch the trophy at the end of the game.

Winning the trophy in Cairo means the Black Challenge have now won the last two editions of the Amputee AFCO.

They also claim a ticket to represent Ghana at the 2026 World Amputee Football World Cup to be staged in Panama.

The Team is expected to arrive in Accra Ghana on Tuesday at 11:20 AM on via Ethiopian Airlines.
