On Tuesday, June 11, Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah launched the third edition of the Accra Inter City Homowo Marathon 2024 at the Accra Sports Stadium’s media center.

The event aims to promote the Homowo Festival, celebrate the cultural heritage and history of the Ga People, and encourage healthy living through sports.

“The sports media benefits a lot from events like this, and I strengthen them to continue to support and promote such events,” Mr. Nunoo Mensah remarked.

He commended the organizers, Medivents Consult, and praised Willie Ezah, saying, “William, thank you so much for putting together this event.”

Mr. Nunoo Mensah emphasized the benefits of marathon running, particularly for young, mid-aged, and older individuals, as well as professional athletes.

Marathon comes with a lot of benefits, especially for the young, the mid-aged, and of course, the old as well. Even if you’re a professional athlete, this is an opportunity to put all the training that you have had into real practice,” he explained.

He encouraged participation, citing William Amponsah’s success in the African Games and hoping for his qualification in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Those of you who have heard names like William Amponsah, who recently won a silver medal at the African Games, was in a similar competition like this. Today, we are hoping William Amponsah will be one of our athletes who will qualify for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024. So far, six athletes have qualified for Paris 2024, and I pray William Amponsah also qualifies for the Paris Olympics Games.”

Mr. Nunoo Mensah added, “Marathon is also an opportunity to win prizes and be recognized as somebody who has achieved something in life.”

Mr. Henri Senyo Penni, General Manager of Medivents Consult, assured participants of adequate security, nutrition, hydration, and medical support. “We have outlined suitable measures, including security, nutrition, hydration, and medical support, to ensure a successful and safe event for all participants,” he said.
