Herbert Mensah has talked up Ghana being a hub for future World Rugby competitions.

“As President of Rugby Africa and a member of the Council for World Rugby, I am urging serious consideration of Ghana as a venue for world rugby competitions. With our top-notch facility at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium in Accra, we possess the capabilities to host prestigious events,” affirmed Mensah as quoted by Peacefmonline.

He commended the government for its investment in sports infrastructure, highlighting the university stadium as a prime example of Ghana’s dedication to sports development.

The former Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer stressed the importance of such investments in positioning the West African nation as a hub for international rugby events.

“We must recognise the government’s efforts in orchestrating these exceptional games. Investments off the field are essential for on-field success in sports,” he remarked.

He also expressed confidence that the high-quality infrastructure would not only benefit local athletes but also elevate Ghana’s standing and pride across Africa.

The ongoing African Games in Ghana marks the nation’s inaugural hosting of the event, drawing over 5,000 elite athletes from 54 African countries competing in 25 diverse sports, including Rugby Sevens.

The addition of rugby to the lineup has injected a fresh wave of excitement into the tournament.
