Ghana lost narrowly in an international friendly dubbed Jollof Derby against Nigeria.

Goals from Cyril Dessers and Ademola Lookman proved decisive as Nigeria secured a win over their West African counterparts in the much-anticipated Jollof Derby, despite Jordan Ayew’s late consolation strike.

In a match marked by the absence of key players on both sides, Nigeria, led by interim coach Finidi George, started strongly, asserting their dominance and seeking an early breakthrough.

Approaching halftime, a lapse in concentration from the Ghanaian defence led to a penalty, which Cyril Dessers calmly converted in the 38th minute, breaking the deadlock.

Shortly after, Ghana had a golden chance to equalise when Ernest Nuamah set up Antoine Semenyo, but the Bournemouth forward squandered the opportunity.

After halftime, Ghana’s new manager Otto Addo made tactical changes to bolster the attack, but their efforts were hindered by a contentious red card to Jerome Opoku.

Taking advantage of the numerical advantage, Nigeria doubled their lead through Ademola Lookman, who latched onto an Alex Iwobi pass to score from close range.

Despite the setback, Ghana showed resilience, with Jordan converting a late penalty to reduce the deficit.

However, Nigeria held firm, securing their first victory over Ghana since 2006, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali making crucial saves to preserve the win.
